What's up with the biggest thing happening in mining in NW Ontario?

SNC Lavalin Wins Thunder Bay-Fort William First Nation Mining Readiness Strategy Bid

Remember this (3rd bullet)?

Wanted:  someone to develop a “Mining Readiness Strategy:  An Integrated Regional Economic Development Plan (2012-2015)” for the City of Thunder Bay, its economic development corporation and Fort William First Nation – submission deadline:  4pm May 29, 2012  Proposal call postingTender package documents (24 page PDF)

CBC Radio reports that SNC Lavalin is the winning bidder, decided on at Monday night’s City Council meeting.

One line in the City Manager’s report explaining the recommendation is interesting – check out the last page, where there’s a table of who’s pitched in money for the strategy.

Am I reading it right that the City’s Strategic Initiatives budget didn’t/couldn’t  come through with $25K?

Looking forward to seeing what the Strategy looks like when it’s ready.
